The Effect of Mother¡¯s Vulnerable Narcissism on Negative Parenting Behaviors : The Mediating Effect of Child-Rearing Beliefs Moderated by Self-Control
Kim Joo-Ryung

Koo Hoon-Jung
Abstract
This study aims to examine the mediated effects of negative child-rearing beliefs in the relationship between vulnerable narcissism and negative parenting behavior, and to reveal the moderated effects of self-control on the direct pathways and indirect pathways of vulnerable narcissism, negative parenting behavior, and negative child-rearing beliefs. To verify this, an online survey was conducted on CNS(Covert Narcissism Scale), CCRBQ(Chinese Child-rearing beliefs Questionnaire), and the Korean self-control scale for mothers raising 0 ~ 12 years of age. The results were analyzed using SPSS and SPSS Process Macro v4.0. The results of this study are as follows. First, vulnerable narcissism showed to significantly predict negative parenting behavior. Second, negative child-rearing beliefs had a mediation effect between vulnerable narcissism and negative parenting behavior. Third, risk seeking and self-centeredness of the self-control subfactors showed a moderation effect in the indirect route through which vulnerable narcissism affects negative parenting behavior through negative child-rearing beliefs. Based on these conclusions, the significance and limitations of this study are discussed, and subsequent studies are suggested.
